Cameron (girl)


Cameron is a Scottish surname (see Cameron (boy) for more info about the origin) that was most often used for boys until the 1980s when it first began being used for girls with any regularity. In 2010, Cameron was #116 for girls (the most common spelling was Camryn) and #40 for boys. It's one of the few names that became used for girls, but still retained its masculine edge. Most boys' names quickly drop off in popularity for boys forever once they start becoming used for girls (i.e., Kelly, Ashley, Joyce, Kim). The actresses Cameron Diaz (born 1972) and Camryn Manheim (born Debra Frances Manheim, 1961).
